Hello friends! I’ve signed up for Lip Monthly, and today I’m going to share my first impressions and swatches. Lip Monthly is a subscription service that will send you 4-5 full sized products every month. They always include one makeup product that is not lip-related. At first I thought that was a little weird, but I think it is supposed to be viewed as a “bonus” product. The monthly cost of the subscription is $12.95, or you can purchase an annual subscription for $129.50
I received this bag in the mail, packaged inside a slim bubble mailer. I quite like the bag; it is a little thin and flimsy, but the design is too cute! And it definitely fits this month’s summery theme. Inside the bag was a lip liner, a lip gloss, a lipstick/lip gloss duo, and an eyeshadow crayon.
First, we have Starlooks Lip Liner in the shade “Sublime”, which retails for $19. I like the sleek black and gold packaging, and the liner is a great match for my favorite liquid lipstick; Magic Wand by Colourpop.
I twisted the liner all the way up, and there was a lot less product than I was expecting. There was about one inch of product. Compared to the length of the overall packaging, I am surprised that there was so little lip liner inside. For a $19 liner, I really don’t think that’s a good deal.
I think the pigmentation of the liner is gorgeous, and it does not budge. Seriously, I had to scrub at it for about 5 minutes to get the swatch off! This will definitely keep your lipstick in place. However, the liner was literally crumbling off the stick when I was trying to apply it. There was hardly any product to begin with, and now there is even less. I will try to use up the rest of it though, because it does its job well.
Next is the Bang Beauty Lip Gloss in the shade “pink champagne”, which retails for $18. This is a bubble-gum pink lip gloss that smells of strawberries and cream. It is opaque and creamy, not sticky at all, and overall a great product. Normally I don’t go for this shade of pink, but I think it looks quite nice. It gives me fresh, feminine vibes. 🙂
Next is the Color City Dual Lip Wand in the shade “Magenta”, which retails for $4. I was terrified when I saw this color. This a very bold, bright Barbie pink, which I usually run from… And you know what? I didn’t hate it. In fact, I actually felt really confident wearing it! I wore it out last night with a friend, and one of the first things he said was that he liked whatever I had on my lips. I approve of this product! In the swatches below, the top is the lip stick, middle is the gloss, and the bottom is the gloss layered over the lipstick.
And last, we have the Luna Eyeshadow Crayon, in the shade “Mystic”, which retails for $24. This product swatched beautifully, and gave a metallic rose-gold finish.
Unfortunately, even though the swatch was gorgeous, it didn’t translate over to my eyes. First of all, applying it with the crayon was next to impossible. It was hard and tacky, and was dragging streaks along my eyelids. So, I ended up rubbing my finger on the crayon, and then applying it to my eye. Barely any of the pigment came through on my eyes. 🙁 Plus, the product smelled of chemicals… Hard, tacky, and chemical smelling? I wonder if they sent me expired makeup. I really wanted to love this one!
The total value of this bag was $65, and I only paid $12. However, I don’t think it was a great value, because there were only two products in it that I liked. Honestly, the lip liner and eyeshadow crayon felt like they were expired to me. I will not be renewing my Lip Monthly subscription. If you have any questions about the products for me, please leave a comment below. 🙂 I hope you found this review useful!
