Hi there! I’ve lived pretty close to the beach for several years, but have only gone to it a handful of times. Now that I’m discovering the amazing benefits that a day at the beach can give you, I plan on going way more frequently! Take a look at what going to the beach can do for you:
1. Easier Breathing
Have you ever noticed that you naturally take deeper breaths at the beach? This is because salt in ocean water releases negative ions in the beach air- so when you breathe in, your lungs are able to absorb more oxygen. This is great for people with asthma, or other breathing difficulties.
2. Smooth Skin
Your skin sheds about 50,000 skin cells every minute, and the dead cells often stick to you. The buildup of dead skin can cause rough spots, blackheads, and acne. Sand is a natural exfoliant; it rubs off the dead skin on your body, and your newer skin is able to show, and any blackheads and blemishes will clear up easily.
3. Youthful Appearance
Ocean water is filled with all sorts of anti-aging ingredients, such as seaweed, brown and red algae, and squalene. All of those are used in beauty products; and for good reason! Seaweed contains vitamins C and E, boosts collagen production, and protects skin from the sun’s UV rays. Brown and red algae reinforce skin cell walls, and also increase collagen production. Squalene hydrates skin and keeps it supple. So, don’t just lay in the sand next time your at the beach. Spend some time in the ocean, and maybe you can save some money on anti-aging products!
4. Immune System
I remember reading older books, and wondering why characters always went away to sea when they were ill. Well, the answer is simple: Seawater contains lots of minerals that boost your immune system, and lots of sun gives you vitamin D to prevent autoimmune diseases. You get both seawater and the sun at the beach, so you will have a much better chance at regaining strength and getting over your illness.
5. Joint Pain Relief
If you have rheumatoid arthritis or any other condition that causes joint pain, the beach will help alleviate that. The minerals in the ocean, as well as the vitamin D from the sun, reduce symptoms such as stiffness and trouble with hand gripping.
6. Dopamine and Seratonin
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that triggers feelings of elation (it’s your body’s natural happy drug). Seratonin is your body’s natural antidepressant and stress reliever. Listening to the sound of the ocean releases both dopamine and seratonin! So, the beach is just as important for your mental health as your physical health.
So, forget spa day… Pack your things and head to the beach!
